Yeah, there's a turnback just north of Bowes Park to get into Bounds Green. It's a shame as it means we're unlikely to see any diversions today with this set today... :(

I think the ECML engineering works are meaning fewer diagrams are needed, so there might be a couple more in the depot than normal.

Or not - it's just got to Peterborough as 1D21 1603 KGX to LDS 2027, so is having a loco attached and will shortly be off around the houses. Woo.

It was still 82218 when I passed it the other day, but I'm sure your confirmation (or otherwise) would be appreciated. I also noticed that the loco had a nameplate and I don't remember many of them wearing those any more; haven't a clue what the name was, though.

Just out of interest (and I'm sure this has probably come up before), why don't northbound diversions use the Sleaford avoider? It would make considerably more sense I would have thought...?

It would be good to know what loco is towing the set around Lincolnshire. Also, do we know what class 91 is attached to this set?

Whilst it would probably be interesting, I am slightly struggling with the WHY?!! element of your request. :D But only slightly.

Sailing back round from Lincoln now then. We can follow this bit of the route.:o

Thanks for the effort. I hope all's well with your relative and they get well soon.

Today's workings seem to have come to and end as she's currently sat on Neville Hill after a relatively easy day. Today's workings included just the 2 diagrams....

0655 Edinburgh (EDB) - King's Cross (KGX) 1146
Then spent nearly 4 hours on Bounds Green depot before working...
1603 King's Cross (KGX) - Leeds (LDS) 2027

The Leeds service saw an interesting diversion through the Lincolnshire countryside. After departing Peterborough passing through Spalding, Sleaford and Lincoln, before heading back to the ECML at Newark Northgate.

82218 then headed the train to Leeds.

It was interesting to see her through all the fields and featureless countryside of this diversion. I hadn't realised how sparsely poulate the Lincolnshire countryside was. No forests or hardly any trees. Just field after field :)

Thanks again to the OP for letting us share this excellent application.

I'd still love to know what 91 is on this set though. :D

Cheers!!

Just navigated the Sleaford avoiding line southbound, on the diverted 0905 Leeds-King's Cross. Now facing the right way again!

Thought I'd watch for a bit, and now it seems to have halted just north of Peterborough on its way to Leeds. 8 overdue (as at 1511) and counting.

Edit: Oh, it's moving again. Delay reason; 'Train fault'.

(Damn, you could waste all day looking at this thing!)

We're overnighting in Neville Hill again it seems. A thought that has occurred is that it would be interesting to know whether all EC sets spend as much time in NH as this one does, because it seems that at least every other day it over nights there if not every night for a couple of days in a row!

Yes I would seem to be the life for a 225 - can't think why else ours is spending more time at NH then any other 225?

I can say that our DVT has spent 6 out of the last 11 nights at NH. The only other places she has stabled overnight are

Polmadie - 2/11
Heaton - 1/11
Craigentinny - 1/11
Bounds Greeen - 1/11

Watching our set for a while now and something that is plainly obvious to me is East Coast have way too short turn around times!
Take the last two workings of our set this Sunday. Arr Kings Cross at 1948 (ex-Leeds) and then back to Leeds on the 2005. No suprise that she did not leave Kings Cross till 2012.

Also thanks you the other members of this fine site, I have our DVT's complete workings (minus all ECS moves) from 27/10 to 30/10
Please do let us know if I have anything wrong

Thursday 27/10/2011 -

1S01 0625 - Newcastle - Edinburgh
1E09 0930 - Edinburgh - Kings Cross
1S22 1500 - Kings Cross - Glasgow Central

Friday 28/10/2011 -

1E06 0650 - Glasgow Central - Kings Cross
1D15 1305 - Kings Cross - Leeds
1A39 1545 - Leeds - Kings Cross
1S30 1830 - Kings Cross - Edinburgh

Saturday 29/10/2011 -

With a late arrival at Leeds last night I was surprised to find our 225 set whisking along the Firth of Forth this morning, on the 0615 Doncaster-Edinburgh.
It must also have worked the 0505 Leeds-Doncaster.
They don't half get about, these trains.

Already working back on the 1000 Edinburgh-King's Cross.

I think it must have worked ECS to Doncaster as the 0505 continues to London.

So it does, my mistake.
Very interesting diagram though.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
I was just checking on our itinerant DVT and the maps initially indicated it was on the 1830 KGX-EDB just north of Newcastle, running 30 late.
This didn't look right from its earlier trips today (I think it did the 1535 KGX-LDS), but by the time I checked a few things the maps had changed to show it at Bounds Green which seems the right place after getting back from Leeds.

Is there a possibility data might be escaping from another set?

I rediscovered this forum last week and this East Coast tracker. I live in Leeds and this is a route I'm familiar with.

I had been checking it out yesterday as it came into Leeds, then went back to Kings Cross and then ended it's day back in Leeds. Today it would have left Neville Hill depot, passed through Leeds station on to Doncaster for the 6.15 to Edinburgh. It left Edinburgh @ 10.00 for KGX and then became the 15.35 from KGX to LDS. It left LDS @ 18.15 arriving back in KGX @ 20.25. I then correctly worked out that it would probably end it's days work in London.

The next bit surprised me though. I had thought that we were tracking one specific train, until about 21.45 when I saw that "our train" was heading north through Co. Durham! Not even a bullet train could get that far, that quickly. It was clearly a different train. This one was the 18.30 dep from KGX to EDB, running about 30 mins late.

I have now checked back as I write, and it is now sat in Bounds Green depot. The system had clearly changed to another train and then back again. There is clearly more than one train available to track.

As I write again, it is now tracking a train heading north again towards Dunbar at 220mph! Conversion gone wrong somewhere?

I think you could be right. I've followed today's activities and they were as follows...

Moved off Neville Hill early morning and arrived ECS at Doncaster for her 1st trip of the day..

0615 Doncaster (DON) - Edinburgh (EDB) 0924
1000 Edinburgh (EDB) - King's Cross (KGX) 1446
1535 King's Cross (KGX) - Leeds (LDS) 1751
1815 Leeds (LDS) - King's Cross (KGX) 2030

An hour or so later I checked and she was parked up on Bounds Green.

However, I'm now receiving a signal from probably another set that is currently hurtling north of the border at Dunbar. Could it be the GPS unit is a portable unit and not permanently fixed to 82218? But how did it get so far north in such a short time? Maybe Ben's picked up on another DVT? Time will tell. We now need to know what current service she's on. I can't see from Edinburgh's arrivals what she could possibly be on. She's due into Edinburgh around 5 minutes from now.

You may be right. I will confirm that the web interface is displaying data from a northbound train in the Dunbar - Edinburgh area while the data stream only 30 minutes ago was coming from Bounds Green depot. I'll also confirm that the displayed 'speed' is almost twice the regulated linespeed for the section it is travelling and is reporting 1S31 while 1S32.

The OP may have made an adjustment (and maybe not) to this web interface, and perhaps the contractor to EC has, as the OP suggested at the start of this thread.
However, there are other problems right now, 1S32 appears to have overtaken 1S31 somewhere south of Doncaster.

This is my first look in today on our DVT, and its been some day hasn't it.

Appears 1S32 has indeed overtaken 1S31 as information for 1S31 says the reason for delay is currently under investigation. Whatever that means!

Could an article in this month's Railway Magazine shed any light on our problems???

There's an article on East Coast's new 'Project Falcon' which is a new software on its 225's and 125's which uses a secure wi-fi signal to send data to a central system at Bounds Green. As well as location and speed using GPS it also sends out details on many other things.

The key thing for me was that it says one 225 has been given the system so far with all the rest of the 225's to follow suit by January. All HST's are already using the system.

Does this have anything to do with what we are watching???

I started viewing at 2325 and our set was running at 104mph just coming into Edinburgh and it slowed rapidly and stopped in the station. Speed is 2.5mph and has been this way for nearly 20 minutes now. Think it may just be buildings

I've also seen the train exceeding 125mph a few times, albeit only by 1mph or so!

It looks like they swapped out the onboard kit for another unit - and hence the old "what units" problem re-arose.

All fixed now :)

Currently doing 215mph southbound south of Retford...

And reached King's Cross at 1040 on the 0545 from Edinburgh.
This doesn't fit with yesterday's movements so we must be following a different set.

And now working 1130 KGX-EDB.
However, it spent its turnround sitting at the buffers showing "13.9mph southbound".
Somrthing not right about the data.

Well, the train is now parked in waverly, and almost certainly not moving.

The data feed is giving me:

{"time":"1320165626.0", "latitude":"55.9528", "longitude":"-3.1864", "altitude":"64.7", "speed":"16.1", "cmg":"271.9", "satellites":"1" }

Now admittedly 1 satellite is no use to anyone. I could put in a bit of code that says "if num sats < 3, then assume stationary", but not surw ehy it has only become necessary now.

There still seems to be a problem with speeds. It looks like this DVT is recording in km per hour, whilst the earlier one used knots. The conversion from the display to mph is .5398 (so 230 equates to 124 mph)

pretty sure it's still using knots as the moment...will keep an eye on it
