So is the new timetable working?

So far ive been on 4 services and so far 4 delays. Noticed a few other companies suffering knock on delays.

Yesterdays 7:18 don to London had to wait for the late running 7:11 to head into and leave Doncaster and last nights 20:3(something) Northern Don to Leeds had to wait for the late running 20:20 Don to Leeds to leave the station.

So far 2 journeys - one 2 minutes late but it was given special treatment. The other was a typical journey on the ECML. 1500 ex KX - Edinburgh stuck behind late running XC service then followed an on-time local into Waverley after losing its path. New timetable same &£$t. To be honest I don't expect the PPM to be that good this week following the weather problems on Monday.

Their frlagship 4 hour 0540 Edinburgh-London has failed to arrive at London at the advertised time yet, or do the journey in 4 hours.

I know it only 3 days in but not a great start.

Pesky trains getting in the way Some TSR between Doncaster and Newark won't help either but 0945 is probably more realistic but doesn't sound as good 4h5 minutes

Not really surprising to be honest, in fact I would be amazed if it arrives at 9:40 more than one day in five. BR used to run services timed to do 3hr 59min and I seem to recall it being mentioned that they hardly ever arrived on time, I suspect that it is just about impossible to run the service at 4hrs without reducing traffic on the ECML drastically or increasing the line speed of some sections to 130-140mph.

And as neither of those are likely to happen, I wonder if we'll see some new 'small print' appearing soon, along the lines of :

It only did it in 3h59m 30% back in the 90s according to Ms Holt. Cant see much will change this time round.

Any timetable change of this magnitude takes a while to bed in, if it is all going pear shaped in a few weeks then obviously there are issues. The Dec 08 WCML timetable wasnt smooth at the beginning.

I've already got two Delay/Repays in.

Perhaps but as has been said many times before the costs associated with upgrading the signalling (mostly the cost of installing in-cab for the 91s/DVTs). As well as the problems of 140mph expresses having to interact with local and inter-regional services (75-100mph) at both the south end of the ECML (KGX-PBO) and the mid sections (GRA-NCL), in addition to the freight and 125mph expresses would be a nightmare of which the consequence would be a loss of paths and therefore services.

Hard to say if the timetable works when really today is the first day there has been no major incident. Infact today has gone rather well.

Which doesnt mean the timetable doesnt work, the fact that no day will ever reach a 100% right time or PPM level suggests that timetables dont work at all.

PPM is great ! 9 minutes late = on time yeah!

From my personal experience Southbound very well, Northbound same old problems, stuck behind late running trains, poor regulation, all the things we know and love. However the extra padding is probably helping. Arriving at London 12 minutes early after a 10 minuite late start from York implies that the padding is good.
