EC coach at St. Neots

Hello, yesterday (4th October) I arrived at St. Neots at around 5:20pm (the 4:40 off KGX) and there was a Mk 3/4 carriage sitting in the through road next to platform 4 on its own (I'm afraid I can't quite tell the difference with out the 43 or 91 at the end and I couldn't see the doors close enough) Do you know what it was doing there? It had gone earlier today on my return journey.

It was mark 3 TSO 42239, as noted in this other thread:

It has been assumed that it had been shunted out of a set due to some sort of fault at some point.

Indeed, a coach from the 0720 Lincoln-KX, which failed there that morning due to hot axle box.

If that had happened to a multiple unit, the entire unit would have to be take out of service
