How big is the difference in cost between silver and grey anyway?

I must say though, the grey looks better, looks less in your face and shiny. Has anyone seen it/them yet?

thay have been illustrated in most of the magazines...

id say the main differences would be that the grey doesnt show off the bodyside ripples plus a few £££ per loco/carraige repaint

Apparently the silver was a metallic paint which was much more expensive than the basic grey paint.

I wondered why the set I saw in Kings Cross recently looked a different shade to the other EC liveried sets I’d seen previously. It’s even more hideous than the silver version. Looks like a gloss undercoat with a thin purple stripe stuck over the top of it. If it saves money though it's a good thing. I'm sure few passengers care what colour the train they are boarding is.

Totally agree there, I often look at XC HST sets and think they look awful with every bump and lump highlighted all the way down the train! Silver isn't a great choice of colour unless you have a very efficient train washing programme either!

I cant see Virgin being allowed both Mainlines to scotland. And I dont see virgin giving up all those shiny pendolinos that they spent so much on..
