Ebbsfleet Cock Up

There are rumours that the new Ebbsfleet station is in a bit of a mess. It is alleged that the track runs behind the station and not adjacent to the platform and there is no room to re-position the track.
Can anybody clarify this? :???:

Nope that is wrong. The station is looking great, well it did when i was there yesterday. There a no lines that run behind the station. All the lines even the fast lines are positioned within the station confines and platforms for the north kent part of the domestic services are positioned on an elevated bridge linking HS1 with the Dartford to Gravesend line.

It would appear that someone has seen an odd view of ebbsfleet station and made a crazy judgement because they dont understand what they are looking at.

The tracks that run 'around' the station are the through lines, while those running through the middle are the stopping lines (which only exist from the Thames tunnel portal to about 1km south of tyhe station) which rejoin the running lines before the A2 underpass.

How annoyed would you be if the only parking space was the one in the bottom left of the photo?

Will there be a shuttle bus like at Airports?

Interesting choice of layout, given that a very similar layout at rugby is being altered to a more "conventional" layout.

Does anyone here plan to use Ebbsfleet?

I'll be keeping to my local rail portals and airports.

Rugby remodelling is a shambles even by WCRM standards...and thats saying something!!
Glad to say HSL1/2 seems to have been done much better restoring some faith in the ability to get something done.

I will, its about 10 mins from My house, and a lot easier to get to than Ashford or London, Especially when it gets the domestic high speed services in 2009 too.

The main Glass building is ontop of the tracks coming from Ashford up HS1, while those curving off from the rest are lined to the North Kent line where the Domestic serivces from Gravesend will join HS1.

Ipswich to Canterbury is 3 hours 45 mins by train and expensive enough already and just under 2 hours by car.

Given that the Queen Elizabeth bring / dartford tunnel toll is only £1 and we usually cram 5 people in the car, they better not charge anymore than 30p extra per person for train from stratford - canterbury or we will probably continue to go by car.

Note that we do not pay any extra for the improved motorway (4 lanes each side and new medway bridge next to the CTRL) (engineered at the place where i work ), and will not pay any extra for the new curve and flyover on the M2/M25 juntion which will probably slash a few minutes off our journey time.

I guess road improvements must pay for themselves... despite reducing fuel consumption and shaving even more land, whereas high speed 1 is apparently a waste of public money that needs to take back as much money as it can.:roll:

Note that I will still be using the existing lines when traveling on my own.

I must admit, that when the CTRL was announced I had this dream of going direct from Stratford to Barcelona in about 8 hours or so (stop laughing at the back).
But pro temps, Ebbsfleet will be quite handy for me as I live next to Junction 28 of the Magic Roundabout. So, can get the wife or daughter to drive me over Betty's Bridge and I believe E is near junction 2, so sorted!
Let's just hope that the powers that be put some serious thought as to through trains when everything gets sorted.
At the moment, what have we got? One train a week (summer only) to Avignon and it doesn't connect with anything...dur.
Why on earth couldn't it go on to Montpellier even, at least it gives punters a better onward choice.
On that point, has anybody got any links in reference to the new line being built from Montpellier to Barca?
