Anybody got any tips of how you can keep the hunger away at night? I always have a big supper of some kind and the weight is starting to be put back on. Even if I have a big lunch and a big tea, I always feel hungry at night. I'm not like that during the day!

I try to avoid eating right before I go bed as this is a big contributor to weight gain. I'm fat enough as it is! lol I would have a big tea/dinner (whatever you want to call it, depending on which area of the country your are from!) and this should fill you up so that you don't have the urge to snack etc. Works for me anyways...

My way of keeping down the urge to eat is smoking i find that smoking practically kills my hunger for food.

PLEASE NOTE:-I STRONGLY advise anyone against starting smoking it is a nasty habit which messes you up big time i should know i smoke 40 a day.

All the best.

People who have to work night shifts on a regular basis can find their body calls for food at unusual times during their shift, even if they have a large meal before setting off for work.

I've just started working again, doing back shifts; generally 2pm - midnight. I find i work better if i have a light-ish lunch, then have a light meal for dinner (usually 9ish) I hate working with a full stomach, especially in my job where I'm standing and moving around all day. Since I started I've lost about 8lb in five days, still a couple of stone over the ideal BMI (not that it's a good scale to go by..) but it's a start!

I used to eat at night when i worked a normal 9-5, but found it would keep me awake at night, so I cut it out. No easy way to do it though, I applied lots of willpower..the time-lock on the fridge helped as well mind

Option one: Find something to do. If you are doing something, the brain doesn't always think about food (unless you really are hungry).

Option two: Eat dinner later. If you fill up (not to much) later in the day the body has less time to feel hungry again. Do not eat too close to going to bed though.

Note: Don't eat anything late which you 'could eat forever' (sweets, biscuits, etc, etc), you will want more.

Only people that work for NR can afford to smoke 40 a day! And I know about the smoking; I quit 3 years ago! :)

That's good, sensible advice. I will start having my tea circa 19:00 - 19:30 I think

Water? Often the brain confuses thirst as hunger (since you can get water from food). A sugary drink would be my method

There are the "glucose-included" drinks now marketed as many people use gymnasiums these days. But be careful not to drink too many of these if you are not excercising as the sugars will go straight on your waistline....as I can well bear out.

You don't have to be a mathematician to realise that:

Sugar + sleep = fat

I was thinking more along the lines of squash - say orange or blackcurrant as opposed to plain water.

I always have toast or a sandwich at about 10.30pm, as tea at 6pm leaves me feeling hungry by then. I don't really go in for breakfast much except at weekends so I have my breakfast as a supper.

Nup 10g per 50g portion which is a big bowl full when made up. 120 calories in total. More or less equivalent to a piece of lightly buttered toast

I always thought it was. Nonetheless, I stand corrected :)
