I travelled between Denmark and Germany and then within Germany last year and made great use of a BahnCard.

This year, we are thinking of travelling between (not sure which order yet!) Bratislava, Vienna, Budapest and Munich.

Is there any type of Pass that would be cheaper than individual journeys? Or a card that gives reduction on each leg?

Any help gratefully received!

Probably the cheapest way is to book on DB - you can do Munich to Budapest on one (advance / savings) ticket, with 2 stopovers of 48 hours each. Both stops could be at different stations in Vienna, so you would have up to 4 days to go to Bratislava and back.

(1st class and Railjet's Business class is worth a look)

I lived in Vienna for over a year and travelled between there and Bratislava many times and a few times between Vienna and Budapest. Bratislava probably won't keep you longer than a day trip but that is very possible with hourly trains that take an hour from Vienna. I think it's about 15 euros return (full price). Budapest from Vienna is certainly a lot more expensive (it was about 50 euros return a few years ago).

Given that we're on a rail forum, you may want to stay a while in Vienna for its subway and fantastic, old-fashioned trams. They're stupidly romantic. I still miss them a little! Otherwise, Vienna is undoubtedly the highlight of those four cities but I hear Munich is fantastic, too.

Having lived in Munich, and visited the other 3 several times I'd say that Munich, Vienna & Budapest are all very good, Bratislava on the other hand is quite small and a day trip would suffice
