Can anybody advise the cheapest way to travel from Eastbourne to St Pancras International on Monday 15th January (not travelling on the Underground so changing for a Thameslink at Haywards Heath or East Croydon).

My friend would like to leave at 0600 from Eastbourne (so morning peak) and return from St Pancras International the same day around 2000.

I would imagine an Anytime return is going to be the cheapest way to do it but if anybody does have any ideas I could pass on then we would be grateful.

Eastbourne to West Hampstead Anytime Day Return is £44.20. Perfectly valid to get off at London St Pancras.

Which shows yet again that my theory of a ticket to somewhere you're not going being cheaper is always worth considering. Do we need a "traintosomewhereyourenotgoing.com"? Or could the function be added to sites like trainsplit.com under a "wild & outlandish option" button? Perhaps I should promote the idea to Martin Lewis, as it's a better money saver if you can beat the splits with a non-split ticket to a different destination.
