I'm planning on using this ticket some time in the next week or so, and I have a quick question about validity.

On the York - Hull/Bridlington services, is this ticket still valid on the services that go via Church Fenton between York and Selby?

From the timetable 4 trains a day (3 on Saturday) go direct, the rest go via Church Fenton.

After a bit of research, I found a twitter thing from 6 years ago from national rail enquiries saying that it is not valid: https://x.com/nationalrailenq/status/1005826826281857025?lang=en
Hi Will, no sorry you cannot go via Church Fenton as this isn't with in the East Yorkshire Round Robin Area I'm afraid. The ticket is only valid on this route (pic of image of route map)
However, I would be astonished if the ticket was rejected on a Hull to York service in practice, since if the ticket isn't allowed on this service it is extremely hard to complete the round robin.
Perhaps someone at Northern could bring this up with the relevant people to get it fixed, since I highly doubt the validity is meant to be like this.
Furthermore, occasionally the direct services may divert via Church Fenton, in which case would you then be taking an invalid service?

I'll stick my neck out here and say that the East Yorkshire Round Robin product ought to be considered as valid on a train routed between York and Selby via Church Fenton. But not for the purpose of joining or leaving the train at any intermediate stations between York and Selby, such as Ulleskelf or Church Fenton. After all, most trains then continue to Hull/Bridlington. Anyone agree or disagree?

I've just spoken to Northern customer services, and have been told as long as I am travelling to Selby or York, then it is OK via Church Fenton.
