I recall reading in Railwatch about two and a half years ago that there were proposals to build a rowing lake for Olympic use somewhere in Bedfordshire. At the proposed site in Bedfordshire there were also plans for the Oxford-Cambridge line to pass, but as Beds CC wanted the lake the rail link was forced to take the southern route via Sandy. Did anything ever come of this?

Yep, there was a official photo shoot with one of the local mayor's digging the first sod - you can find it on Google.

I still think there was no need for it at all, there's a perfectly good rowing lake at Peterborough which isn't that far away from Bedford at all.

The lake is a complete waste of time.. one of Beds CC's many ridiculous decisions before it was replaced.

Why build a new lake, I would have thought that they could have used one of the holes in the ground that they dug the clay out off to make all those bricks they make/made in Bedfordshire, alongside the Bedford to Bletchley line.
