Hi all,
Was looking at the map for the East Miidlands Day Ranger (priced at a staggering £26) and noticed it includes a very small area of the WCML between Tamworth Low Level and Nuneaton, but the restrictions say the ticket is only valid on East Midlands Trains, Cross Country, and Northern. But as far as I know, only London Midland and a very small amount of Virgin pendolino services run between them, but it is indicated on the map! So does anyone know, if, it is actually valid on LM or VT?

does it say "Not valid on Virgin"? or is it simply a case of Virgin being missed of the list? if it doesn't specifically exclude Virgin and the ticket has something like "any permitted" on it then I can't see there being a problem using it on VT at all.

and the above equally applies to LM.

it doesn't specifically say 'Not valid on Virgin Trains' but does say (on NR's website) "valid on services operated by East Midlands Trains, Northern Rail, and Cross-Country". But according to the ticket - it says "Validity - as advertised", so I still don't know what to trust

I've been with people on these rangers and they've always travelled on VT. They've been a little worried about the validity of their ticket, but VT have always been fine about it.

ah good, was considering doing another of these or a West Midlands Day ranger bash, will probably do WM, as it's a darn sight better value :)

West Mids rover is another one with the VT problem. Never seen anyone have a problem using them on VT though.

just bring a copy of the *map* with you if you are worried.

NCoC says you can travel on any TOC on permitted routes unless it states clearly on your ticket that it can't.

It is not valid on Virgin on checking "The Manual" it states the following:

Available after 0900 (Mondays–Fridays) and all day Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Only available within the area shown on the map below.

Valid only on services of the following Operators:

· CrossCountry

· East Midlands Trains

· London Midland

· Northern

And then it has the same map as posted above, it looks like LM has been missed off the list. If the public want to check "The Manual" they usually have to ask the ticket office staff to do this for them.

Despite it not actually being valid on VT services again I've never seen one refused and as long as you just ask the guard before you board there normally very accomodating with Rover/Ranger tickets
