The trains that are lost are probably the least useful ones to have anyway. Eg the NNG-LCN at 1501 which is followed by the 1512 call on the LEI-GMB. I'd much rather have a consistent evenly spread service supplemented in the peaks by the Crewe service.
Yeah agreed with that for the majority, the one I'm annoyed with is the 12.44 Northgate to Lincoln being no more, as it gave an additional option to get in for football on a Saturday, with choice of 12.09, 12.44 and 13.09. To be replaced with 12.25 and 13.23 only.

How is the Matlock - Cleethorpes service performing, now we're a couple of weeks in?

From a cursory glance over RTT, give or take a few minutes, time keeping seems okay, which was my big concern with this one.

Generally it seems to be more or less fine. The odd issue with failed units or whatever but it does seem to be working nicely.

You can also get seats between Nottingham and Lincoln on 2 car trains.Hopefully one day we will see Cleethorpes go hourly. But Lincolnshire as a whole does seem to generally well

The risk will be is if a unit runs late, with it coming from further away. It might see Matlock trains terminated at Nottingham or Derby. Late up the Matlock line could make a service behind delayed. Once a service becomes unreliable, people walk away.

Hopefully as they've a fair bit of standing time at Nottingham that should help mitigate that.

I know some of the gripes in the Derby area were from people travelling from London, connecting on to the Matlock train. Often it would.leace just as the train from London arrived, then be looped at Breadsall to be overtaken by the train from London....If the Matlock train doesn't work for its users, then many will just drive

If you go all the way back to the first page you will see that improving the robustness of connection from London into the Matlock was one of the stated aims of this new timetable.

Good to hear, looking at RTT again, I guess the standing time at Lincoln and Nottingham does help with them keeping.

They also seem to have made the timing between stations, especially on the Matlock branch more manageable so its actually possible to be on time. Before most trains were 1/2 minutes late unless you had a good crew onboard that kept it to time.

Indeed, it's an improvement, hopefully all works out well long term.

There is also a 19 minute turnaround time at Matlock compared to 5 minutes in the old timetable.

Incompetent missing of connectionsat Derby is not only an issue from Lonon.

A relative came late into Derby mid evening from Birmingham on 17/12 to rush across the bridge for the Matlock train, which was nevertheless despatched on time only to sit north of the station until after the XC had gone ahead. Platfrom staff pleaded ignorance that there had been anyone delay. The stats will score an on-time despatch, XC will meet the needless Delay Repay costs, and the passengers had their evenings ruined. But no impact on EMR who appear unable to make competent use of the 2018 remodelling that cost the country £200m plus countless hours of passenger impact.

Been on a train,a few times at Derby. The guard announced we were waiting for a platform. Open Train Times showed an empty station.

Noticed a lot more 170s appearing on the Liverpool to Norwich route since the timetable change. Are there specific diagrams for them or are they in the same allocation pool as the 158s?

There are now more 170 diagrams on the Liverpool to Norwich and are put more favourably on there.

I don't actually know how the allocation pool works but I know there are some diagrams where a 3 car 170 is needed, for example

The 170s are now 50/50 with the 158s. The pattern is 2 170s then 2 158s. Starting off 170s from Nottingham to Liverpool 0521 and 0635, then 158s. Vice versa from Liverpool with the 064x and 074x being 158s.

Does this mean the strengthening unit at Nottingham always turns out to be the same class as what comes in from Norwich?

Can you run 170s and 158s coupled together in passenger service? I suppose I vaguely thought you could but I'm not sure I've actually seen it on the Norwich-Liverpool route (or any other route come to that).

The two have different passenger info/call for aid systems and other niggling compatibility issues so they are only allowed to work together either empty coaching stock or if really necessary you can move a locked out unit with the other type as part of a passenger formation.

I know in the past when it was Central Trains 158s did used to actually run in service with 170s on Liverpool-Nottingham route I used to see it regular at Manchester Piccadilly

So that creates a risk that if the diagrams get messed up it won't be possible to strengthen a 170 with a 158 at Nottingham or vice versa.

The risk has been there for ages and thus far hasn't really posed much of an issue - short forms have happened but they've been quite unusual and more often 5 car 170 vice 6 rather than 2 vice 5 or anything silly like that.

Generally speaking I have to say after some reservations the timetable has worked brilliantly all round and I've not heard anyone say otherwise really - it seems to be robust and reliable (bar things like unit failures). The Regional side feels far less problematic than it was.

Glad to hear this. A rather rare recent example of a genuine significant improvement to services.

That’s great to hear and as regular user I am delighted when a 5 car 170 turns up on Nottingham - Liverpool they certainly help with dwell times at Piccadilly and Oxford Road.

I have to give credit to EMR they really do seem to run Liverpool - Norwich really well. Sets swaps at Nottingham seem to be well managed on the occasions they are needed with a 4 car set waiting in platform and the ex-Norwich 2 car (of the opposite stock) coming in behind or on an adjacent platform.
