Last time I saw it it was still being dug out, so as Gizzy says, it's not open yet. It's by the old south access lines to Ratcliffe Power Station and as the name suggests will cater for the East Midlands Airport
It is supposed to cater for the motorists on the M1, encouraging them to come off junction 24 and park the car, then take the train onward to London, or wherever they are going. Also caters for those wishing to reach EMAirport by train quicker by use of a shuttle bus from EM Parkway.
it is designed for passengers to get to EMA by train, though the service to there isn't exactly 100% if you know what I mean (well, when it opens obviously!)
if there is, it will no dobt be like the bus from Liverpool South Parkway, £3 a throw, and not as many trains as you would have thought, to anywhere but Liverpool
Without a shuttle link to EMA, this station is more or less pointless to airline passengers. "for passengers travelling to East Midlands Airport please alight here, then follow the tall, space-age like tower with the red light on top, in the far distance"
What will be the distance between station and the airport, only parkway station thats close to the airport is Southamptons, its just across the road so access is quite better than getting off at Heathrow Central.
Trouble with Southampton Airport Parkway is its lack of facilities including original Southern railway concrete footbridge and lack of services (thanks to SWTs objections) to the sussex coast area.
Yeah that station gets trains almost every minute, not to mention the specific Gatwick Express service. Though Manchester is looking very good at the moment with its 3rd platform almost done and possible metrolink servie.
