East Midlands Parkway

Hi all,

New to the hobby so please forgive any errors on my part !
I’m flying out of East Midlands for a few days at the end of March and will have a few hours spare on a Sat morning. What can expect to see at East Midlands Parkway ?
Looking at info online it looks like a pretty big car park and easy access to the station. Any info greatly appreciated or other good locations near East Mids.

Railway-wise, not a great deal I think.

There's two heritage services/museums on the GCR at Loughborough and Ruddington, but they're not exactly nearby.

Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station is right next door to the station. Apart from that it's mostly empty fields and villages!

The airport has a small aviation museum (East Midlands Aeropark).

Oh, there's Cross Country 170 ECS moves through there too.

You can expect to see bleak and desolate surroundings on one side and mammoth cooling towers on the other.

I would say that after a couple of hours, you'll be glad to get away from the place.

Don't let me put you off though!

The power station is an interesting feature if you want to try to get some of the artistic style photos that appear in RAIL magazine.

Also Redhill Marina is next door (walkable), It's worth a little potter around.

Best thing is the HSTs with the VP185 engines. If you can get to Attenborough, it's a nice nature reserve alongside the railway. Wondered there a few times in the last few years.

One of the pubs in Kegworth - it really is a middle-of-nowhere sort of station!

Think I would get the train to Nottingham. plenty of trains at the station to look at , or have a go on the trams.

or the micro pub just outside.
