Hi...I own a house near sheffield that I want to rent out. Does anyone know an ldc address or postal address where I could post some info to go on a mess room wall please? Would like to advertise it to rail crew to find potential tenants. Thanks.

Hi...I am a train driver living in the south but own a house near sheffield that I want to rent out. Does anyone know an ldc address or postal address where I could post some info to go on a mess room wall please? Would be fab to have another member of rail crew as a tenant. Thanks.

My advice would be to not do that. Approach being a landlord as a strictly business deal and do not bring your day job into it even in a tangential way.

There are numerous ways a rental situation can go sour and it is bad enough when it is just business, if there is any sort of personal connection it will be a whole lot worse and much more difficult to make good decisions on your own behalf.

Just because you feel like you have something big in common such as being a train driver doesn't mean you won't end up dealing with an utter ****. Ridding yourself of a nightmare tenant is a long, costly and nasty business and a dispute over housing will leave lots of bad feeling all round, not something I would want even a remote chance of spilling over to a daytime job. Just imagine you had a falling out with someone and then wanted to transfer to a company/depot where they worked and had already badmouthed you to all and sundry.

I know this is all worst case scenario stuff and the chances are you could get a decent person renting but is it really worth the risk?

If you are new to being a landlord and seeing as you don't live nearby finding a good rental agent may be a better way to go.

Oh it is run by a management company! Just trying to widen its advertising and there are many train crew who commute and are good people. This is not a new venture. Its an attempt to find a decent tenant...who will be vetted! Thanks for your advice on pitfalls though. Take it you cant help with the info needed. Thanks anyway
