East Lancs trip

I've looked around first, as I thought a thread on this event existed, but the mobile version doesn't have the search facility, so I apologise if there is a thread already.

I'm planning my first ever visit to the East Lancs on Saturday, tempting in no small part by the running of a pair of Deltics. I want this to be my son's first preserved haulage, as sadly the 323, Voyager and Tram to get there will be his first trips. He's only 3 weeks old, bless him.

I was wondering two things;
1. Do the East Lancs offer an PRIV holder discounts (Have just had a new baby)?
2. If they do, will it be ineligible as this is classed as a special running day?

Just an update to say a friend of mine, when I mentioned this trip, very kindly took it upon himself to phone the ELR and ask them.

So I now know that PRIV is available that day, and at £3.40 for a day with two Deltics, I'm as happay as a pig in.............stuff

Good to hear you're planning on visiting the East Lancs, though I think there might have been a miscommunication somewhere along the line with regards to PRIV fares - they now come under the same pricing band as Residents Permit fares, which means the flat fare is currently £4.40 per full line (ie Heywood to Rawtenstall) return, but aren't valid for all day travel. If you were after doing more than one trip, you could either get another priv discounted full line return or, if it worked out cheaper, the standard full line return fare which acts (on non-event days) as a day rover ticket, and which also now allows free entry to Bury Transport Museum.

I haven't heard of anything changing the fares this for this weekend, so I suspect it's possibly a miscommunication somewhere. Sorry if it works out a bit more expensive than you were expecting, just didn't want to see you go and then find out it's a bit more than you were expecting, hope it doesn't detract from you or your young'un's enjoyment of the day too much - it's good to see he's getting a good show for his first proper haulage though, you're training him up well!

Thanks for the corrections Jon, it at least makes me more aware what's happening. We can only arrive for the 12:20 departure, so it'll only be two round trips I guess anyway.

I can't show favouritism as regards training, josh, my eldest had 37906's first run in preservation at the SVR for his first pres run, so the return of 9016 to action seems only fair.

I hope the weather is up to some photography too, but we'll take what we get.

Will second that, fold the pram down and put it in the luggage compartment underneath the bus (have done this on c2c with replacement buses (Pitsea-Southend East)), but, without wanting to complicate matters, it may be better to ring Metrolink first and check.

PS - Am tempted to say that you wouldn't have a problem if the route was still heavy rail, but don't want to start that again with the tram-huggers on here!

Prams aren't great at folding down, but with him being so young we need a flat back for him to lie on.

Anyway, I rang them and asked, they said fine and the times/places seem to match up, so I'm gonna risk it.
