Maybe the staff from the East Kilbride ticket office will be redeployed at Hairmyres if it is indeed to have a ticket office.

How long roughly would a unit be able to sit at East Kilbride, if the unit coming from East Kilbride passes the unit heading to East Kilbride at the last signal in the loop before East Kilbride?

Hope that makes sense.

Just trying to see if one platform would still work to have a unit spend more time at East Kilbride rather than Glasgow Central

Building a ticket office and opening a ticket office are somewhat different questions, of course.

I'd imagined that the extended passing loop would be used for slotting in peak hour extras rather than regular use throughout the day. Assuming the plan is to have four coach emus working off-peak East Kilbride services, would there be scope for interworking with other services also operated by four coach emus (e.g. Neilston) to minimise dwell times at Glasgow Central?

They currently manage 4tph at peak times if I'm not mistaken? I do wonder if the electrification will lead to a couple of minutes journey time saving? I know that Barrhead is meant to be faster from December.

Do people think that a 2nd platform at EK would be needed? How long of a turnaround time does the service actually need?

Dwell times are about 8 minutes at EK and 17 minutes at Glasgow Central off-peak. Takes 3 units to run 2 tph on EK branch currently, and end to end is about 30 minutes on average (slightly quicker downhill towards Glasgow than up to EK). 2 platforms at EK would allow the longer dwell to be at East Kilbride, freeing up some platform space.

Barrhead currently seems to be pathed as about a 1.5 to 2 minute saving, so maybe 3 minutes saved on EK once it is Electric. There is probably a way of improving the interworking once this is done, with Barrhead and Cathcart Circle services, but working these out is always quite involved.
