Are the wires live yet?EMU test trains will be running in October at somepoint.
Are the wires live yet?
Sunday 12th October according to WON 26No. They were meant to be live at the end of August, but that got postponed. Not seen any new notices at work advising of a "live" date.
It's essentially the only electric train that can run to EK, though I understand 385s will be route cleared in due course but not used, at least initially. Not sure if this is new or old news, but just in case it's new, Class 380s are to run on the East Kilbride line from December.
From the limited research I had done before this, I figured the Class 320s or something similar could run it. But I’ve been proven wrong. And it makes sense it’s the 380 since they already run to Busby Jn on the Barrhead line. It's essentially the only electric train that can run to EK, though I understand 385s will be route cleared in due course but not used, at least initially.
It'll probably be enabled by swapping 380s for 320s (and/or 318s) somewhere, as there are not enough 380s to work additional diagrams. From the limited research I had done before this, I figured the Class 320s or something similar could run it. Is the plan to run all services using 380s or a mix of electric and diesel? It'll probably be enabled by swapping 380s for 320s (and/or 318s) somewhere, as there are not enough 380s to work additional diagrams.
The latter, a mixture. Is the plan to run all services using 380s or a mix of electric and diesel?
Why can’t 318/320 do it?From the limited research I had done before this, I figured the Class 320s or something similar could run it. But I’ve been proven wrong. And it makes sense it’s the 380 since they already run to Busby Jn on the Barrhead line.
They are DOO only, EK isn't set up for DOO.Why can’t 318/320 do it?

Do the Class 318 still not retain the option of conductor operating doors from their days on North Berwick services? Or was this removed during overhaul?EK and Barrhead routes meet all the requirements for DOO. The only units that ScotRail have that have DOO cctv equipment that could operate it as DOO are the 334, 380 and 385.
However, it is expected that it will be operated conventionally with a conductor being in control of the doors as per the Barrhead route.
Not sure on the 318, as I don't sign it.Do the Class 318 still not retain the option of conductor operating doors from their days on North Berwick services? Or was this removed during overhaul?
Presumably the platforms can take 2x3 car 380s but not 2x4 car.Not sure on the 318, as I don't sign it.
All drivers that sign the EK route, apart from Dumfries who lose it in December, sign class 380 so it is the most cost effective traction option for ScotRail to use that meets the requirements for the route. Essentially there is no training needed and it can be operated by 380s straight away.
RTT already showing 380/156 mixIs the plan to run all services using 380s or a mix of electric and diesel?
I see some diagrams come off or go onto Carlisle workings. But is Dumfries to lose the EK workings? This could be updated in due course. Looks like a EMU every 90 mins during the day for EK line
A maintenance train of some sort passed Giffnock about an hour ago heading towards East Kilbride. A cab, a hopper, some machinery and another cab. Guessing it’s track related.
Makes sense, thanksThe autumn rail head treatment train (sandite) services have started. What you've seen will have probably been an MPV which carries out high pressure water jetting to clean the railhead and lay traction adhesion gel at certain points.
The original project scope included platform extensions for 8 carriages, but this enhancement was removed from the scope.Presumably the platforms can take 2x3 car 380s but not 2x4 car.
Was two platforms also included at EK station but then removed also? The original project scope included platform extensions for 8 carriages, but this enhancement was removed from the scope.
So did none of the platforms get extended at all in the end?
