Planning a trip to London on the 4th June. I am making a short trip from West Ham to Barking to pass East Ham depot on the north side. I know the tube line passes the north end, but does the overground trains also pass the north end of the depot (I assume overground trains return on the south side single line) ? Also am considering getting the tube as have better chance of getting any westbound 357s as they won't be so close and better chance of getting the numbers (front or side). Is this the best thing to do. I also note the North London line is closed, will this effect the chance of any freight at Stratford where I intend to be at from 09.30 til about 11.00. Many thanks for your help.

London overground trains branch off towards Woodgrange Park missing the north side of the depot if that is what you meant by overground? Both directions of the District and Hammersmith and City lines pass the north side of the depot, c2c trains towards Barking pass the north side of the depot and c2c trains towards West Ham run along the single track on the south side of the depot. The things you will see are 357's you should be able to get some numbers, probably a London Overground 150, an old FGW Green mark 3 coach and some old Blue Pullman coaches on the far south of the depot. Until recently there was also a Virgin liveried class 86 at the depot too. Hope this helps Chris (CCF23)

Regarding freight i think things should still pass Stratford from the Olympic site i think even if the NLL is closed although you will see less though there. I think the majority of freight heading South/East through Stratford passes Barking too coming onto the GOBLIN before Woodgrange Park.

if the advertised closure on london overground is saying rail replacement bus from stratford (i havnt checked) then doubt you will see much (if any) freight from stratford, as we tend to work to the nearest station we can reverse at before the engineering possession limits, if stratford isnt being served then channelsea curve will also be closed and that the path virtually all the freight runs on.
