East Croydon to Heathrow online article

So I just read an online article about some guy who was checking out how quickly it took to go from East Croydon to Heathrow on the Elizabeth Line.

He said he took a train from East Croydon to Farringdon and changed to the Elizabeth line to Paddington, walked to the Elizabeth line platforms on the mainline station and took the Elizabeth line to Terminals 2/3.

Then he said the off peak single ticket was £32.30 (double that if you wanted a return) and I'm thinking to myself that there is no way it costs that much to get to Heathrow on the Elizabeth line from East Croydon!

The only thing I can think of is he bought a Heathrow Express ticket at a mad premium but then used it on the Elizabeth Line and I believe that the Heathrow Express ticket isn't valid on the Elizabeth Line between Paddington and Heathrow!

Are there any other possible ticket options that would come close to a £32.30 fare?

Ticket office must have seen this guy coming...

£32.20 and 1 hour 28 min, is the off-peak single fare East Croydon - Heathrow (Any) I got on Trainline just now, journey from Pad shows "Heathrow Express" but it went down to £14.30 if I chose a 'via' option and put in Hayes and Harlington, 1hour 39 min, 6 stops, journey detail now says "Elizabeth Line".

£32.20 is the Anytime Day Single from Croydon Stations to Heathrow Rail, route ✠ANY PERMITTED, so it is priced in anticipation of using Heathrow Express, but it would also be valid for the Elizabeth line.

£16.10 is the Anytime Day Single from Croydon Stations to Heathrow Rail, route ✠NOT HEATHROW EXP, which would be valid for the Elizabeth line but not Heathrow Express. The Off-Peak version of this ticket is £14.30.

Yep, I posted in the Elizabeth line ticketing thread, I’d been to parkrun at Bedfont and decided to ride the Elizabeth line home, so I jogged round to terminal 5 and travelled the route described in the OP in reverse, got charged £12.45 after hitting the zone 1-6 cap as I’d taken the X26 from Croydon to Hatton Cross earlier. I forgot about the Heathrow premium applying as all my previous visits to Heathrow were either all the way by X26, or else by Croydon-Victoria-Green Park-Piccadilly line.
