East Croydon to Fareham

I'm looking for a day return from East Croydon to Fareham on Thursday 20 November. I have a Network Railcard.

The best I've come up with so far is the Southern DaySave for £15, though it restricts me to travel after 1000. That's OK though I also wouldn't mind going a bit earlier.

YTes, the Network Railcard during the week restricts you to post 10am. The NR website says that by buying two singles and using the Network Railcard you can get there and back for £13.00 by travelling after 10am.

But two Network Card singles should cost you £26.00 (2 x min fare) during the week. Is that what you meant?

It is also possible that it may be composed of two Advance singles (£5+£8) but it is impossible to tell without further information.

Sorry, should have said I don't want to be restricted to specific services, so wouldn't go for the Advance singles.

Yes. Presumably, he knows which day he is travelling because he is asking the question at this time. Always try to buy in advance when at all possible as the madness of the system is that turn up and buy is nearly always much more expensive.

Not really, if you don't want to be restricted to one single train the best possible discount is a couple of percent if you but from the right place, otherwise there is no difference on walk up fares.

The only discount you can normally get from buying on advance is out you commit to a single train, not even a time bracket. Stupid situation really...

If you want the 0948 service, take it to Redhill, where it arrives at 1000 with an Anytime single, then just stay on with your DaySave to Fareham?
