East Cost Diversions Sunday

Hi all

Does anyone know how busy the Eastcoast services have been on sunday while there diverted via Carlise? I'm going to be using one this coming sunday for work

They weren't busy when I used them a couple of weekends ago, everyone went into one or two carridges and the rest of the train was empty except for a few smart people who had spaced out.

Why would anyone stay on board the ridiculously slow southbound EC service at Carlisle if going to London? Surely it would be more time effective to get a West Coast service to Euston, unless they are on dirt cheap EC Advances.

But if you're going from Edinburgh to Newcastle/York/Darlington'Donny etc then you would obviously stay get the EC

That and if you preferred HSTs to Pendolinos (for some bizarre reason )

I'll be honest im going away for work and i actually just dont fancy our rail replacement bus services from Berwick to Edinburgh however id have done that had the services been rammed leaving newcastle

I've got to go from Newcastle - Glasgow and back on Saturday and wil be going via Carlisle on EC.
I'm not expecting too much crowding, though some weekends can be busy. First Class will probably have another passenger or two in each coach and last time I looked their First Advances were cheaper than the remaining Standard Advances on the northbound.

I'd stay away from the through London-Aberdeen/Inverness (and vice versa) services as they tend to be pretty busy.

The London-Edinburgh (and vice versa) are busy also, but seem to be pretty spread out loadings wise from what I've seen over the last few years.

The trains tend to ease out a little passenger wise as the Glasgow passengers change at Carlisle for ease and quickness

I estimate running with only about 20% capacity on this morning's northbound (8:48 off Newcastle)

and less than half that on this evening's southbound.

By way of an amusing throwback from the past, I did notice that the platform displays at Carlisle indicated theses services correctly with just one exception: "Operated by Great North Eastern Railways". Almost brought a tear to my eye.
