GNER was extremely good!! Best private operator I travelled on so far. However, it's no longer the fastest as some press report, that honour goes to the WCML now, just! Also the fact that it goes quicker train in, train out, not just for one service or so. Either way, the destinations were more glamorous and so was the service.
There was indeed a KK-Darlington non-stop which I believe was 2hr 12mins timetabled! Make that 105mph average speed, so was a little quicker to York back in the day when I was on one that averaged 112mph and that was an HST!!! 1hr40mins to York an we were breaking quite heavily on 2 sections and it did seem like we were going over 125mph at times! The glory days imho!!
If they manage this 4hour journey to Edinburgh I will be impressed, really impressed in the current rail environment we have. That really will be some prestige for the line and much needed.
