Travelled on 2330 from Kings Cross to Newark last night. Just interested when looking at the timetable why it takes so long between Doncaster and Leeds. After a an 0125 arrival at Doncaster it does not arrive in Leeds until 0237.

Thanks to anyone who can answer my curiosity.

Because it's taking a very eccentric route between the two, going via Shaftholme junction, Pontefract Tanshelf, the Wakefield Kirkgate avoiding curve and Woodlesford. Or at least it's booked to.

Also the 01.25 that appears in the timetable is a lie; the booked arrival in the working timetable is not till 01.39.30.

It's also conveniently timed to miss the 0222 service to Manchester Airport. :)

At times last year when i caught the last service from the Cross to Leeds it would arrive in a good 20mins early.

Yes, it is set down only at all stops, so usually arrives well early. Also, if any engineering possessions affect its booked route, it is frequently rescheduled via any of the myriad of route available between Donny and Leeds for an HST, which usually (but not always) result in an earlier arrival.
