Yep, the B set is the ex-EMT set.

IIRC they try to keep it on the weekday diagram which starts and ends at Neville Hill.

For a time it was being used on the York - KGX shorts, although I have seen it on other longer runs.

Does anyone know if the EMT set has done the Highland Chieftain?

I had the misfortune to travel on it once - in my view it is inferior to the other sets used - at least in 1st Class :p

That plan is out of date now as the luggage rack in the middle of each coach has been removed so the seat numbers now match the normal EC HSTs, the only difference is there are more tables and less single seats in first class. There were driver/guard communication problems with the set which meant it had to be dispatched using flags and whistles, so it generally stayed on a fixed diagram to start and finish at NL, and under no circumstances could it go north of Edinburgh. However that problem has now been rectified and the set can turn up on any diagram now, so it will turn up in Inverness at some point. I'm pretty sure it has been up there in the past.

Is it due to receive the standard refresh anytime soon?

Didn't another set come from EMT about 2 years ago and receive the standard interior?

Am I right in thinking that this set also has some FGW HST seats randomly in the middle of the train?

Yes in coach B at the end of the train there are a number of FGW seats. There are no plans for any refurb on the train as far as im aware.

I was on it the other day - very weird. In coach B (I think), it was EMT seats for 2/3 of the carriage, with FGW ones for the other 1/3. The rest of the coaches were all EMT as far as I could tell.

EDIT: Should have read the rest of the thread...

I've seen it at Newcastle on both an Inverness and an Aberdeen service, so I'm assuming it made it there (although I don't know if there was a set swap en route, obviously).
