Is all of EC's non-managerial recruitment undertaken through Spring Personnel?

I have contacted their HR Services department who tell me that all operational or safety critical posts are recruited internally where possible, which is fair enough but it does the leave the question of how anybody ever gets into the position of being an internal candidate when they never appear to advertise externally for any staff.

Do they recruit from their pool of speculative approaches on the website or do they advertise locally in the press etc?

They do seem a bit of an anomaly when it comes to recruitment!

Anybody any the wiser..?

Yeah, I've heard before about EC being a bit of a 'closed shop'. No it wasn't driving, I was asking them about dispatch and train guard roles. So if they recruit from other companies then it must be through speculative CVs registered on the website then.

What and where are you looking for?

Spring are for gateline staff and onboard.

ISS for cleaning staff.

If you feel you are suitable equipped for a role, I would suggest sending in a speculative CV. If you are after work on at a specific location, eg a station, it may be worth getting a CV to the local management directly.

Guards - internal from other roles, or already qualified from other TOCs

Drivers - external qualified for the most part. No trainees for several years anywhere, either internal or external.

You would be better off sending in any CV to their HR department in York. I'm quite sure anything addressed to a manager would be just passed on.

Also, a polite note to not use text speak in your posts.

As the old saying goes 'It's not what you know, it's who you know'!

Even under the GNER days it was always about advertising internally and then one would approach HR indicating a friend or family member is very keen and it would be dealt in that way.

I was very fortunate to join GNER off the streets but like others have mentioned a speculative CV to HR wouldn't go a miss, long shot but worth a try:)

I would actually send me CV along with a covering letter to my local station and personally hand it to the station manager that way you can have a quite brief chat and he/she has your contact details before passing it on to HR.
