I've just been booking on eastcoast.co.uk and was disappointed to see they've introduced a postage charge of £1.
Are they allowed to do this? It's rather a disappointment from my favourite booking site.
Yes - they will argue you can still collect from stations. However not much use in many rural areas where the station was no ticket issuing facalities like Market Rasen.
And indeed for me - I'll have to remember to collect when I'm in London as my nearest collect station is Leeds - a £4ish single fare away.
Alternatively, you could use the booking engine of another TOC that had the same back-end, but doesn't charge for postage?

But lose the online booking discount.
That's the last time I book with East Coast then! I don't normally buy their tickets anyway, so I won't lose any discount, I just like the interface.
Although...as I only live five mins from the station, I could colelct at the TVM there...hmm, but there's a principle involved here, I'd rather give my business to those TOC's that don't have postage charges added...hmmm, I don't know what to do!

Just had a read of the "more info" tab on the delivery selection page. Turns out if your origin station does not have ticket collection facilities they will not charge you postage. If it does then £1 fee applies. Which whilst I'm still not happy about it is at least a half decent compromise.
Excellent find. Poppleton doesn't have collection facilities. I therefore won't be buying any tickets from York station!Just had a read of the "more info" tab on the delivery selection page. Could it go by your postcode or your history of stations booked from or something? Sounds very odd.Yet just over 2 hours ago I bought tickets originating at King's Cross and was offered (and accepted!) free postage. :-?
If there is a free option, (either book at station or collect from TVM), then you are making the personal choice of wanting the most expensive delivery method...

Perhaps it looks at the facilites for the station nearest your post code rather than the station your journey starts from?
One thing did strike me - if I opt to print at my local station then those machines are run by FCC - does FCC get reimbursed by EC for the cost of printing these tickets? if you pay EC £1 to post, then you pay EC for the printing. if you opt for collection then in many cases FCC or Northern etc gets these costs instead.
