99% sure they will run the 2 hourly service to York and 2 hourly service to Newark, not sure it even has to be that much more intensive with prescent stock when you take the Glasgow trains (currently carrying fresh air about between Glasgow and Edinburgh) out of the equation

Also, as the earlier linked ECML statement explains there aren't as many Newark short services as there could have been.

There were originally 7 Lincolns, and they have reduced to 1 Lincoln and only 4 Newarks, rather than the possible 6 for which paths must have existed.

It's not that fresh!;)

I for one will miss the East Coast services to Glasgow - but I accept the point that they aren't well used once past Edinburgh. Oh well!

I will miss them too, mainly between Motherwell and Peterboro'. Now I will have to change somewhere en route, but I do understand the reasons behind this.

Its not just that I will miss the comfort and simplicity of travelling between Newcastle and Glasgow on 'a proper train' without having to change. Its also the persistently irritating attitude (aka policy decisions) of Operators that our passenger services fall into only 4 categories. That railways are, either, long distance services with one terminus in London; local services on noisy, slow uncomfortable and ovecrowded units; or regionally devolved networks (eg ScotRail); or that horrid compromise of Cross Country and its awful noisy plastic smelly and uncomfortable units.

I can't see any pleasure in travelling between anywhere in Eastern or North Eastern England and the West of Scotland without a direct service. And why should commercial profitability come into it? What 'profit' is gained from the obscene expenditure on the new M8 and M74 link in Glasgow which has laid waste to more than a square mile of inner city land for a road project in the city?

Surely its not a question of commercial profitability, the rolling stock is simply being moved to where it can benefit more people. It makes no sense to me to have high speed inter city rolling stock trundling around branch lines in Scotland near empty.

It will be a loss at certain times. On Saturday mornings there are large Glasgow - Newcastle flows but I suspect the are more than happy using Queen street and changing when engineering work happens. This demand may fit into a voyager. In the Inter-City days back in the 1990s at times using East Coast was much slower than West Coast so I suspect more people used it. Since the WCML upgrades you must seriously hate Pendos and flying to consider using East Coast!

HEAR HEAR.
Somebody that talks an awful lot of sense. Agree with every word of what has been said.
This decision wouldnt be so bad if Crosscountry had decent trains, but having to transfer from a Mk 3/4 to a Voyager is a come down in many peoples eyes. Although i know someone who prefers Voyagers, he is from North of the border, so we have to let him off!!!!!

You must seriously hate trains to consider using Pendos or to fly!!!

In all seriousness though. I would never fly London to Scotland. There is hardly any benefit, but plenty of drawbacks.
Regarding Pendos. I would never use them London to Glasgow. To me the interior of standard class is worse than a voyager (too dark). The noise of a voyager puts the 2 level.
In the past I have always used East Coast, and from May, I shall change at Edinburgh onto Scotrail.
