East Coast Mainline - Spotting Points

Hi, I live near Birmingham and want to travel to somewhere on the ECML to see 91s, Azumas, Lumo, Grand Central, etc. can anyone reomend a good station to spot at thats within a daytrip distance of Brum (ie. I don't want it to take ages to get there and back as I want to try and do it in one day,

New Zealand Footbridge in Sandy is a good place. It has a low metal barrier very close to the slow lines, and is on a shallow curve, meaning trains can be seen from some distance in the north. Free parking nearby too or a 30min walk from the station (mostly along the railway). I've been there several times, never been disturbed and gotten a few toots from LNER drivers!

Peterborough. Direct train from Brum.

A decent amount of freight there too.
