East Coast in Tyne Valley

Prob a really simple reason, but has me puzzled, 2 Saturdays in last few weeks incl today, driving along Tyne Valley I have seen East Coast HSTs running along the line. Dont see any evidence of rerouting, so where were they headed and why were they there?

Engineering works between Edinburgh and Berwick has the ECML closed north of Newcastle at weekends, so an hourly HST service is running Newcastle to Edinburgh via Carlisle and the Tyne Valley line, with the usual Aberdeen and Inverness HSTs from Kings Cross continuing to work through north of Edinburgh. It's been an annual occurence each September/October since 2004.

this is 3rd and last weekend this year but next year its planned for 8 weekends
