East Coast - First Class

Hi,

I will be travelling First Class on the 17.49 EC service from KX to Leeds on Friday 26th Aug.

I have looked at the EC website and the following was found:

Evening meal on selected services leaving London King’s Cross from around 17.00 until 19.00, choose from an evening meal, a selection of sandwiches or a light salad topped off with a tasty dessert or cheese and crackers.
The majority of evening services from around 19.00 serve tasty food at your seat, accompanied by complimentary drinks from our trolley

Am I correct in assuming that I will not receive table service? Additionally, what type of meals are usually on the menu?

Any additional info would be great! If this is in the wrong place mods then please move it

This service should be afternoon tea, you should have the option of sandwiches, salard or a hot snack on this service. If should be 4 sandwich quarters. As this is the Leeds route you have a good chance of getting the full menu but if you don't have an AP I would recommend waiting for the 1803 which serves a meal rather than a snack.

It does say that an Evening Meal is provided on services after 1700 though, so hopefully we will get a little bit more than just sandwiches?

Unfortunately not - the 1749 is just a sandwiches services. The only services that have meals are:

1700 London - Edinburgh
1730 London - Newcastle
1800 London - Edinburgh
1803 London - Skipton
1819 London - Newcastle
1830 London - Edinburgh
1833 London - Bradford
1900 London - Edinburgh
1903 London - Leeds

So it will be only sandwiches (unless you are lucky and get beetroot risotto loaded!)

BTW that is it - no services southbound offer evening meals!

The evening meal is not served on any southbound services!

Won't get any arguement from me I am a vocal critic of there policy - the sandwiches are OK to be honest, but when you only get 2 for a 4 hour journey it does &%£$ you off a little! Have a look through the thread I posted the link to Elaine Holts response to a complaint will answer your question, they feel that it isn't commercailly viable to have a chef on the 1749, people in the know will wait for the 1803. I wonder if the 1803 is normally more expensive than the 1749.

Could they not just employ somebody who can use a microwave on the 1749 service!

Then the meal wouldnt be consistent and your back at square one again. I wonder does anywhere else conduct their business like EC
