Unless some of the 0030s also called at Stevenage. They're grumbling because they have lost all their through trains to Scotland.

But stopping the 30 at Stevenage would make matters worse as the x33 would always catch up then.

Re toilet in coach M - probably won't be missed as most people don't know about it. I hope access to the DVT is always available, but to be honest luggage doesn't seem an issue in 1st.

Why do HST's in Eureka do Edinburgh to London in 4hr22 and the 91's with exactly the same stopping pattern do it in 4hr25? So much for the extra horsepower and electrics taking off a few mins!

Let me more specific. Three of the York fasts also call at Peterborough: 0700, 0900 and 1300.

If the 0730, 0930 and 1330 called at Stevenage instead of Peterborough, they wouldn't be run down by the x35 (not x33) because that stops there too.

It would be good to see a HST sat in Lincoln every morning, does anyone know if they are going to use a full length HST or a shortened due to Lincoln's platform not being very long, its just long enough to fit a 5 car 222

I can't imagine they will even consider shortening an HST set for just one return journey per day, it would be so much hassle for very little point. I would guess they would just do what they normally do when a HST doesn't fit the platform, tell the passengers not to disembark there!

Indeed, ive also heard this, the very end toilet in coach M i believe?

Correct, on the HST's anyway. MK4's will have the same modification opposite the toilet in Coach M.

The first modified set is now due on the 27th, having discovered a new problem.

Just wondering, are these modified sets still going to be able to produce the current menu (and restaurant service) before the introduction of the new first class offering in May?

So, for those of us that live further north, whats the score with the Northern/Transpennine/XC stoppers? (yes, XC services double up as stoppers south of Newcastle).

Yes it would, at Peterborough unless you are proposing replacing the Peterborough stop with Stevenage?

End of journey padding, the HSTs doing it in 4h22 are going beyond Edinburgh. Look at the 1500 which is going to Glasgow it also is quicker to Edinburgh.

You'll have to use XC's journey planner to find out - as we did for the main ECML services before they helpfully provided a timetable.

Yes, the procedures for preparing the current menu has changed but a manual has been issued with new cooking and heating instructions for the modified sets and the services will run as normal until May.

Best to iron out all the problems on the first sets, although 8 weeks to complete all the other sets is cutting it a bit too fine i feel. Do you know if there will be both a Mark IV and HST out on the 27th? I was told the guy in charge of the alterations was the same guy who did the pendo kitchens, and that he has learnt from his mistakes, roll on May.

Thanks for that. I'd love to understand those working methods better, from a chef's perspective. (I'm an enthusiastic amateur chef with some catering admin background).

If you've seen the kitchen orders and feel able to post on here (or PM) I'd be grateful.

It is the same guy who did the Pendo kitchens. Once these initial sets are completed they expect around 2-3 days to do each of the rest. The delays with these are mainly things like doors opening the wrong way and the discovery of the new combi-ovens being too powerful.

The manual basically shows different cooking temps and times for the current menu. The only real change in how something is heated will be Panini's on the HST's. They will now be done in the combi-oven/microwave (on the oven setting) as they will no longer have a grill.

I'm not sure what kitchen order you're after, the final menu for May is just going through the works now.

That's the usual meaning of "instead". The H+00 services are a real boon to Peterborough, so why not spread the joy around, as they will take demand off the following H+30 services and there are other trains to cover Peterborough to Doncaster?

It is odd that more services don't stop at Peterborough as there is no time penalty. When I heard some would I though great slowing down the service again, but it is not the case.

I suspect in good times we will be waiting in stations as the 1100 can do the pattern in 4h19 and not stopping at Peterborough saves the current 1500 6 minutes doing the journey in 4h13, the new services doing the same pattern are 12 minutes slow so hopefully we can get back into the 90% on time area. Unless the XCs still get in the way!

I guess it's the result of imposing a clockface timetable on a service that is provided by both HSTs and Electric locos. But that begs the question of why the 1100 and 1500 couldn't also call at Peterborough, to provide a two-hourly fast service - with the 1130 and 1530 calling at Stevenage instead.

...and also the Southbound 0730, 0930, 1330, 1430 and 1530 from Edinburgh. The 1630 manages to leave York a minute later and still call at Stevenage without penalty!

This also calls into question the Network Rail investment model, which holds that the benefit of making an extra stop is outweighed by the disbenefit of extending the overall journey time. But if this is constrained by the HST schedule, so that there is no penalty, then the cost model alone should support the extra stop, not to mention the benefit to the travelling public from a more inclusive service.
