Are there any indications that the prices of the 1st advance tickets will be reduced in line with the comments of Lord Adonis ?
Or even the prices of the walk-on tickets ?
I seem to remember posts on these forums in the recent past expressing the shock at the steep price rises for 1st class tickets, especially the advance ones, imposed by NXEC.

The revised prices should become public tomorrow (4 weeks prior to Jan 2), so we won't have to ponder for long.

The new prices are now public, and it appears the First Advance tickets will become more expensive, certainly as far as the lowest price tier is concerned.
Here are some examples of the lowest tier EC prices between London King's Cross and:
Peterborough - £19.15 (usually £21.50) becomes £21 (usually £23.60)
Grantham - £21.35 (usually £24) becomes £24.05 (usually £27)
Newark North Gate - £24.50 (usually £27.50) becomes £27.50 (usually £30.90)
Retford - £28.50 (usually £32) becomes £32 (usually £35.95)
Doncaster - £33.80 (usually £38 ) becomes £38 (usually £42.70)
Prices in brackets are without the aforementioned 10% FA discount. Incidentally, that discount will only apply to purchases made by December 8.

Yes. It seems that until 8 December 2009 we can choose between buying East Coast First Class Advance tickets with 11% discount (advertised as 10%) here or with 21% discount (advertised as 20%) here.
But don't try both links with the same computer. You need to delete cookies, or wait for it to time out, before the discount level will change.

Yesterday we booked on East Coast from Inverness to York in first class on Feb 28th at £85.30 for the two of us which I think is a great price.
Today the price is £85.40 for standard class where it was £39 yesterday and £104.30 in first class.
Just goes to show you have to be pretty quick on certain routes to get the best price.

Great find. As it happens I got the same email from them but I hadn't checked it until you posted the link.
For travel this month, there are still some good deals to be had - Edinburgh to London for £41.85, departing 7pm on December 30 for example (or £27.65 with an appropriate Railcard).
To further underline Graham's point, anyone with access to that special link who was brave enough to book yesterday for journeys after New Year's Day, may well have benefitted from a 21% discount off this year's prices!
Got the email so will be doing Inverness - Kings Cross in January for around £34 FC (with a YP railcard), which is probably the only time I'll travel first class unless they have more promotions on. Going to spend the money saved on breakfast and dinner on the train, hopefully should be alright.
