I have been waiting for advance fares to be released for East Coast on the 30 October. They are supposed to be 12 weeks in advance but we are now down to less than 9 weeks but still nothing. Anybody know what they have planned for that day. I guess some farely substantial engineering works.

Also do you think I am wasting my time trying to buy standard advence tickets for that date anyway. I am travelling from Edinburgh to London and thought I would look at the prices for advances on the West Coast from Glasgow. Using the mixing deck it seems there are NO standard advance fares available for that day from Glasgow to London. I cannot believe they have sold out so I guess Virgin do not offer any standard advance fares on Sunday. Just to add they do have First advance fares for that date.

So will I be able to get a standard advance fore from Edinburgh to London or am I better off trying to book on a different day ?

Timetable shows as per normal but the cheapest fare is a super off peak single at 56:80GBP without any discount

I had a look on the Virgin website and standard advance tickets are available from Edinburgh on the 10.52 for £47.50 and 18.52 for £37 to Euston

Advance fares from Glasgow;
the 17.36 £47.50 in standard and the
9.37 & 10.34 departures £49 in 1st class!

Otherwise the super off peak walk on is the next cheapest, until East Coast finish negotiating with Network Rail on engineering works and (hopefully) release some advance fares.

From Saturday lunchtime to Sunday lunchtime on that weekend and a few others around that time, all EC services are being diverted via Lincoln, adding a couple of hours on to the journey.

If you're coming from Edinburgh, then this shouldn't affect you in terms of the journey time. Look at the previous week's times, the first train south from Edinburgh hits the affected area on Sunday lunchtime after the diversions have ended.

What is affecting you, trying to buy a ticket, is the fact that until the full timetable for the day is known, the Advance fares won't be released. But it must on be a matter of days before they released. The tickets for the previous Sunday went on sale in the last couple of days I think.
