East Coast 225's

Hello everybody this is my first post, Just a quick question are East Coast ever going to paint up the 225's cos i travel on them alot and the blue carriages with the white stripe is so dull and boring now.

there's no point for ec to paint them, they're only running it until the end of 2011, why waste the taxpayer's money on it?

I don't expect they'll paint any of them purely for branding purposes. However, they might need to paint them if the paintwork gets shabby - some of them probably haven't been repainted for around six or seven years I would guess, so they might need attention in the time before a new operator takes over.

If any do need painting in the next 18 months it would almost certainly be to a plain white base, allowing the new operator to choose their own colour scheme in due course. If it happens to be DB then all they'll need to do is add a red stripe!

Of all the possible improvements that might be possible on the EC, I can see no justification for this even being at the bottom of any list of priorities.
What's the benefit? To whom?
Passengers are more concerned about punctuality, reliability, heating & a/c, catering, clean toilets, rubbish collection, blocked gangways, timetableing etc.
The company is consulting right now on proposed changes - (see the Eureka Timetable thread) - but no mention of white stripes. Staff are more concerned about hours, shifts, job security, and their future. The company has implemented a wide reaching plan to instal ticket barriers with potential impact on on-board staff rotas as well as revenue. White stripes just don't come into it!

The only reason I see for repainting even one would be for advertising. Even then they could just do a computer generated image of it. Or like NXEC, get someone to do a model.

Wonder how long it will be until we see the end of the GNER livery? ANyone want to bet it will still be there when the IEP trains eventually arrive to take over?

^^ I think it will still be there, it looks very smart and think its popular with passengers. I think it looks even better with the white stripe rather than orange, as once the doors where painted orange aswell it looked a bit too much...

I agree, painting the doors on everything distracts from the actual livery. However it's for the DDA, but still we don't paint doors on buses and other things in bright colours and blind/partially sighted people are still able to get on, so why should the railways be any different?

Because it's a requirment of the Rail Vehicle Access Regulations (RVAR), not the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).

Nope- that's mainly just logos, some one-off liveries and things such as the "livery launch" ScotRail "Transport Scotland" unit. I think even the silver parts of Nat Ex livery are painted.

If they want to rebrand before they need to be repainted then they do, as is the case with XC's Voyagers.

I assume you are meaning the new super IC trains that is going to save the GWML And ECML?

I suspect they will remain on the ECML until they are scrapped in 2030. They are still fit for purpose and the UK can't afford to be scrapping trains ahead of their time.

If the order for example was for 50x all electric SETS trains, this will simply be reduced to 32 electric sets with the 28 225 making up the 50. They may only run between London and Leeds for example.

If the pacers are not going anywhere, I can't see us spending money on replacing a train which is still only half way though its useful life. Remember the DMU order

They'd probably get cascaded to a "less important" service like Norwich - London or Sheffield - London.

I guess it is red when first done then fades to an off red (almost orange) over time.

I believe the paint on the 225 sets is warrantied, I am not sure for what period though, so will remain in the GNER/ white stripe until the warranty ends. 91111 was repainted to the NXEC livery due to damage.

We had the same on the GN 365's they remained in NSE long after the TOC? was disbanded and WAGN took over. Finally being vinyled by FCC.

The 125's were repainted and all now run in NXEC/ECT livery.. currently with with one or two sets including GNER liveried vehicles.... or ath moment with XC vehicles/Power cars on loan.

GNER did not refer to it at Orange, and had you referred to it as Orange infront of Chris Garnett you would have had a clip around the ear!

Presumably the marketing people would never let a big business refer to its colour scheme as anything simple like "red" or "orange" - they'll have chosen a posh sounding name from the Dulux colour charts

I've heard this about the NSE livery on 365s and 465s before, but don't understand it. If the TOC wanted to repaint a train, why should the warranty on the existing paint matter?
