Earphones snapped in iPad

Right so I take my earpods out of my iPad tonight and the end bit stays in. What should I do. I can't use it cos I don't want to tighten the earphone jack please help I'm having withdrawal symptoms from not being able to use it. I've tried all manner of tweesers I just don't know what to do please help please

I presume you did this by pulling them out with the wire and not the end bit, I've done it a few times on my laptop, whatever you do in the future do not pull them out with just the wire. As for getting the bit out, I would take it to a very well trusted tech repair shop (not a crappy street stall) or take it to an apple store to get it repaired, which I presume won't come out cheap. Either way it will cost something. You could also try very gently tapping it on a table to try and bring it out or use a strong magnet such as an oid (them things you throw in the air together and they make a noise).

I don't know if gadget insurance will cover this if you have it, if you do you could try that. Good luck!

I'd be very wary with a magnet too! Probably best left to the pros

Magnets aren't going to cause any issue with the iPad - it's not all CRTs and floppy disks nowadays, you know - I took someone's iMac apart at one point, the screen is stuck on with magnets (meaning when you tried to put it back together again, the magnetic screws would be very hard to get in without them sticking to the screen magnets!).


But I have doubts you'd be able to extract it with a magnet. Hell, are headphone jacks even magnetic?

If only they were easy to take apart... but of course, Apple would never allow that.

Using a very small drill bit in between your fingers is actually a very good idea, using it in a hammer drill is not.

It could be done if you found a perfectly sized drill bit (~2.5mm), made a jig to hold the iPad securely in place and a well handled drill (perhaps a pillar drill), but I doubt you'll have access to a DT workshop!

Have you got any long nose pliers, these have fine ends for gripping if you can get in to get a hold or precision jewelry screwdrivers, these are really fine and strong tipped.

I don't know it happened to the one I bought this this Christmas (2012) and I got it from amazon so idk if it has one...


Apple store was very helpful, the lady said under no circumstances use the superglue thing but get a Ribena straw and and put it round to form a vacuum and suck. She said it works for her kids.
