Just received my next 3 year Senior Railcard, about 3 weeks before the current one runs out.

Am I likely to run into any difficulties using the new one straight away, or should I play it safe and carry both for the overlapping period?

You will encounter difficulties if you try to add the discount to an Oystercard with more than 3 years validity.

I seem to recall that when I last renewed my 3 year Rail card which came back being valid for more than three years I was able to get it added to by Oystercard immediately but the expiry date was entered on the system for exactly three years. Later I then had the correct expiry date amended on my Oyster card.

Thanks to both of you, for reminding me about Oyster. Probably best to keep the existing card if only to validate card number on existing Oyster until I add the new one to Oyster in a few weeks...
