Prompted by the interesting thread below about the LBSC's 6600V AC electrification scheme:
http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=152911

What evidence remains today of the infrastructure associated with the various defunct early (pre WW2) electrification schemes, eg the aforementioned LBSC system, Shildon to Newport, Lancaster Green Ayre to Morecambe etc?

There's some evidence left of the LBSCR overhead electricifaction still visible.

At the top of, and recessed into, the retaining wall on the east side between East Croydon and South Croydon you can see the footings where the overhead pillars were mounted. They are a dull brown concrete black with a few bolt protruding.

If you look at this picture from London Connections, I think you can see one of the old bases at the top of the wall just past the first arch:

I believe there are also similar remants on a similar wall just south of Clapham Junction.

There are - and quite a lot of them, some of which should be easy to photograph.

There are some concrete bases each with two protruding girders chopped off, on the up side of the formation near the London end of the tunnel at Crystal Palace. I think, but I don't know, that these are the remains of LBSC OLE supports.

Yes - that's them.

Interesting, next time a I have a free half day in London I may well take a trip to South London for the LBSC electrification leftovers.

I take it no one's aware of any thing remaining of the Shildon - Newport scheme? The portals always struck me as less substantial than was usual for OHLE equipment of the time so perhaps there wasn't a need for heavy concrete foundations.

Plenty of the bases for the overhead catenery on the old Bury to Holcombe Moor line. Interestingly the line went from steam to overhead electric to third rail and back to steam.

As a youngster I played in the disused substation at Great Stainton. It was quite a substantial brick structure. I've no idea if it is still standing, it was near a pub called the Blacksmith's Arms.

The Simpasture - Stillington section was closed and lifted in about 1968 and we could walk along most of the route though the bridge over the ECML had been removed fairly promptly. In the Stillington area I believe there may be some signs of the electrification equipment which was taken out of use in the 1930s.
