Earlier train if train cancelled

I’m booked on 07.37 York - Kings Cross which is cancelled. Can I catch the 07.02 instead? Also, I had a Seatfrog first class upgrade. Is that still valid? Thanks

Getting on an earlier service would be to the discretion of the train crew from that service.

Show up, find the conductor of the train before boarding and ask nicely, they may allow you travel or not.

Getting on a later train is an automatic right though

Ahhh, crumbs. There's nothing more disappointing than a train cancellation but, alas, sometimes these things happen. The good news is that we have an agreement with our rail partners, and it goes a little something like this: if your service is cancelled, you may be able to use it on the next available service. You'll need to confirm with the Train Manager that they can accommodate you. But, if you can't use your upgrade due to a cancellation get in touch with our team.

Probably a bit late now, but what ticket type do you hold? I assume it's an Advance Single? If you hold an Advance Single, and your booked train is cancelled, you can travel on the one before or the one after, providing they are the same operator. You don't need permission to do this.

I realise the "after" option can extend to any reasonable one due to delay/cancellation if its more than an hour.

But is the "before" option only for the same operator and when cancelled or does it apply in other scenarios as well?

The cancelled 0737 service (York->London Kings Cross) was an LNER train. As also were the 0702 (+ the 0802).
