Ealing to Notting Hill

According to TFL single fare finder

Ealing Common to/from Notting Hill is £3.30 peak / £2.80 off-peak
Ealing Broadway to/from Notting Hill is £1.70 peak / £1.50 off-peak

A big difference when the two Ealing stations are so close to each other, and both in zone 3.

The Citymapper app suggests Ealing Common to/from Notting Hill is possible at £1.70/£1.50 providing I change at Ealing Broadway.

As I don't think there are any pink validators at Ealing Broadway, is it possible to tell the system that I am taking this route?

From Ealing Common assumes routing via Earl's Court, so zones 3 2 1.
from Ealing Broadway direct zones 3 2 only.

It's half right. You can pay the zone 2-3 price, but the route is via Hammersmith and Wood Lane/White City. If you travel via Ealing Broadway you'll pay the zone 1-3 price.
