There was talk a couple of years ago of reopening the booking office there, so could be. However, I always thought that this was the old building on the platform. Could just be general refurbishment works...

Still not sure why Grand Central bother to stop there, although I know it is the closest they can get to Middlesbrough...

Eaglescliffe has been a great success for GC. There is always a good amount of passengers boarding for services to London, plus the good connections with Middlesborough. If you look at the 2010 Station Usage Figures, NR says a 20% rise in usage of the station was because of the introduction of GC's fourth path...
You've answered your own question there - Middlesbrough is quite a bit place without a direct link to London, and if GC wasn't there many people would just jump on the half hourly Northern service to Darlington and get a train from there.

Or you could copy a space onto the clipboard (select it with the mouse, and hold down "Ctrl" and tap "C" on your keyboard), then when you need a space, use the shortcut for Paste, which is Ctrl+V (hold down "Ctrl" and tap "V")
If you have a Mac, the Ctrl key is called Command, and has an apple logo on it, if I remember, but the key combination is the same.

North Yarm (!) station always seems to do well whenever i have been on a GC throught there.
I have often wondered why GC were not able to run into Boro and then out south. I know reversal is a pain in the bum but is there another reason. Will the trains not fit into the Boro? Are there no paths between hartburn Junction/stockton cut junction and the Boro?

I dunno, possibly because it will add 15+ minutes onto the journey, and thus making it even quicker to travel EC to Newcastle and change?
This way, they are still the quickest company for Middlesborough and have good times for Hartlepool and Sunderland...
You would struggle with a full length EC HST at 2+9 to fit at Boro (even if you brought the disused part of platform 2 back into use) but I would think a GC HST at 2+5 (ish seeing as they occasionally have 2+6s I believe) or a 180 would fit very comfortably on platform 1.

HST 2+9 = 243 = 17.8*2 +23*9
Presumably in the days of the Cleveland Executive, which did reverse in Bore before calling at Eaglescliffe, it was HST= 2+8 = 219.6, from memory I don't think it used P2 which is the one with the disused eastern end bt it is a long time ago [1991?]

So, now the work is complete, does anyone have any links to / pictures of the finished job?
When I passed last week, I couldn't see much on the actual platform unless they've built something in the car park. Someone had also changed the signage by putting some masking tape over the bit which says "Buy tickets from the Conductor on the train" to "from the ticket office".

The booking office is in the 'tower' at the top of the ramp AFAIK. Toilets and a waiting room are also being provided in the old building on the platform according to the plans.
