Eaglescliffe Station facilities to get £1m revamp

More than £1m is to be spent upgrading passenger facilities at Eaglescliffe Station, near Stockton.

The project, part-funded by Network Rail and the Department for Transport, will include a new waiting area, platform benches and CCTV cameras.

The six-month scheme, due to start in November, will also see car park spaces rise from the current 30 to 84.

The number of passengers using the station has risen from 136,000 to 150,00 over the past year.

better than nothing i guess the majority will go on the carparking, hopefully the brick building will go as it serves no purpose afaik but i may be corrected. however in the time before mr beeching it was a bigger station , i'll try to find a pic.

admittedly it's from 1932 but you'll see what i mean about the size of the station harry42. http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/image/epw038903

It was the booking office as far as I'm aware so as you say it now serves no purpose.

Interesting though these days the station doesn't need four/five platforms.
