I was travelling on the thamslink between two stations around 15 minutes away from each other, the station i came from doesn’t have barriers so i went through and when i arrived at the other end i wasn’t sure if this station had no barriers aswell so went to check and it did so i had to wait by the barriers and quickly buy a ticket on trainline however i only bought a ticket from one stop away from the other direction as this was the cheapest, while i was doing this the person behind the glass in the room was staring at me and her screen. I am wondering if she saw it was suspicious and was waiting for my details to look into this and can see that the ticket was only bought seconds before i went through the barrier. Do the people in the room on the screen have access to our person information and ticket details when we go through the barriers ?

No. However we do not condone fare evasion which is what you were engaged in. From what you have said you clearly had no intention of buying a ticket unless it was absolutely necessary, and that is fare evasion. It is a criminal offence and if you had been stopped you would be liable for conviction with all that entails. In future, always buy you ticket before you board a train and buy it for the full journey.

I know, and i travel on trains frequently and have never done this before, it was the first time i had travelled from a station with no barriers and i made a stupid decision which i now heavily regret

In which case I would strongly advise you to ensure that you buy a valid ticket before travel in the future. Whilst you will get away with it this time eventually you will be caught and then they will almost certainly look into your purchase history with someone like Trainline and if they see a pattern of having bought tickets from the station before the one you alighted at you can be certain they'll put two and two together and then you'll be looking even more trouble. Including being potentially liable hundreds or even potentially, depending on the scale, thousands of pounds in trying to settle the matter out of court or, if it goes to court (which it could do, there's no requirement to offer a settlement) being fined and facing a criminal record.

I'm not sure there's anything else that can be added at this point and so the thread is locked.
