Hi all,

I regularly travel to/from Whittlesford Parkway and Cambridge North.

I've been using the Cross Country app and happily buying off peak singles and returns, using a combination of direct GA trains and also changing at Cambridge to/from Thameslinks. Regardless of selected journey, I've always got an e-ticket on the app.

Today I bought a Super Off-Peak Day Single for the 1732 from CMB (Thameslink), changing at CBG for the 1750 to WLF (GA). The ticket was only available to collect, not as an electronic ticket on the app.

The nice person at Crosscountry Twitter tells me it's because Thameslink don't do e-tickets, which I believe, but this is the first time I've experienced this.

While I generally don't pay much attention to the precise journey I select on the app as it's always a Super Off-Peak Day Single, I find it hard to believe that this is the first time I have chosen a journey with a Thameslink leg.

Indeed, I'm often buying a ticket as I'm running for a specific train, and I often get a Thameslink from CMB, so it's very likely that I've bought exactly the same ticket in the past.

Have some rules changed recently, or perhaps the app got updated? Or have I just been lucky in the past?

From now on I'll just buy tickets for GA only journeys to avoid the issue, I'm just curious as to what might have happened.

I may not have explained things clearly so happy to clarify anything.

Thameslink eticketing is bizarre. I can't comment on the situation for a local journey around Cambridge but between Stevenage and London Terminals/London Thameslink Anytime and Off Peak tickets are available as etickets but not Super Off Peaks...

Each ticket type and flow needs to be individually enabled for e-ticket availability, so it simply means that particular ticket type has not been so enabled by the owner of the flow.

And a right royal pain it is to do too.
But I assume it only has to be done once.

Do we think they haven’t done it because it’s hard work or because they don’t want to and if the latter, what is stopping them?

Actually no, if something changes like the route you have to start all over again. The changeover from route 00000 to route 00001 was fun. The last big updates were managed centrally by RDG so everything should have been included.

Sounds like it’s the back end of the ticketing that needs simplifying more than the front end.

I'm pretty certain it has been enabled.

The TPE website for example is perfectly happy to sell the Super Off Peak Single as to eticket albeit giving you a very poor description:

Same in the Trainsplit app:

It would be a lot simpler if RDG said all fares were permitted to be issued as e-tickets by default, and instead distributed details of which ones were not...
