Hi all,

I hope you are well.

Following the trial of 92s on the 4M01/ 4L18 Felixstowe (Ipswich)- Trafford Park - Felixstowe (Ipswich) working, I assumed that GBRf would continue using Europorte 92s on circuit however, since the new year came in, the working has seen a trickle of 66s atop.

I understand that GBRf now use a 92 on the 6X41/6L48 circuit which obviously lowers their availability however, out of interest I was wondering if the 92s will reappear on 4M01/L18 again at some stage in the year?

Cheers,
Joseph Bevan.

There was a significant cost saving when using the 92 so I expect it will make a return as and when they become available. The reliable ones are currently used on other services.

On a side note, the return working of 4L18 to Trafford Park is now 4M21.

Thank you for your reply!

Any reason for the recoding of 4M01?

I take it that there is a loco change before going through to Felixstowe from Ipswich?

If so, that's another reason to upgrade that section to OLE.

There is yes. I think when they first did the trial, they planned to do it at Colchester instead though but it was done at Ipswich and the loco off the North Walsham tanks then went on and tripped the train round the branch to Felixstowe.

Yes, but no different to the dozen or so Freightliner services a day
which have been electrically hauled to/from Ipswich yard for years;
one GBRf train doing the same won't suddenly change the business case! ;)

Runs in a different path out of Felixstowe now (swapped with
the Hams Hall which used to run as 4M21)

Thanks a lot.

In reference to this, do you know why the southbound DBS Malcolm liner was recoded from 4M26 to 4M25 recently?

Cheers, Joe
