Are there any loco and DVT formations that could technically operate as.

DVT-Rake-Loco-rake-DVT formation?

Eg, can the Ex TPE stock operate as 5+1+5 set. Or could a pair of classic ScotRail DBSO sets operate with a 47 or 37 sandwiched in the middle?

So the answer is probably yes but I have no idea why you would want to run such an arrangement in revenue earning service.

The Belgians have done it for years with 2 loco hauled sets coupled and dividing later. If the train is intended to work that way I don't see why it would be an issue.

Under what circumstances would that occur in this country? For a start you would need to get another loco from somewhere to haul the divided part.

You just have both locos coupled into the formation. Of course in the UK we would just use multiple units.

ATP-P had centre power cars with driving trailers at each end. Not real locos though as the power cars had no driving cabs of their own. In Switzerland at times of high demand they often couple extra coaches behind a loco propelling a push pull set. Push pull railjet units in Austria are operated in pairs on some routes. The locos can both be in the middle sometimes.

On the Austrian RailJet I've travelled on a train with the formation:

Driving trailer - Intermediate trailers - Loco - Loco - Intermediate trailers - Driving trailer

In BR days, WCML DVT driver training took place with locos sandwiched in the middle.

BR ran sets with Mark 3 DVTs at both ends for commissioning and/or driver training on them.

Belgian railways have run such a formation for trains between Anterpen and Noorderkempen when the driving trailers had the required signalling systems but the locos didn't, as seen here.

Rescuing a failure, where the rescuer is in reverse formation to the rescuee. Although in that case, it's two locos sandwiched, one of which non-operational.
