So my sister has a weekly sometimes longer ticket from Durrington On Sea (Worthing) to Crawley. Her normal route is via hove, changing at Three Bridges or Hayward’s Heath.
Is she able to go via the Arun valley line, which is in the opposite direction, and requires a change at Barnham?
If yes, I assume she can get off at any station en route if she needs to?
She also has to go to Chichester, could she buy a ticket from Ford/Barnham to Chichester if the Arun valley route to Crawley is permitted and has a valid durrington-Crawley ticket

Thanks!

Durrington is a member of Brighton Group and Ford routeing points.
Crawley is a member of Horsham and Three Bridges routeing points.

Ford Group to Three Bridges Group includes map LP which suggests that the line between Barnham and Horsham.
It doesn't include the line that Durrington is on but does include the routeing point (Ford).
I can't get a journey planner to provide an itinerary that way although i haven't tried many. I'd consider it reasonable, but i'm not sure what the guards would say.
The only real question is the double back at Barnham. It's fine if you're changing at Ford, but i'm not sure Barnham would be allowed.

Yes, it's fine to go either way and with a season she can stop at any intermediate station.

The season is valid as far west as Barnham so she'd need to buy an extra ticket to go to Chichester.

Going via Ford (or Littlehampton) is fine. Going via Barnham (passing through Ford in both directions, doesn't matter if the train stops or not) is also fine; there's an "easement" that I had forgotten about to allow this.

There's an easement which covers Barnham

"030141 Customer travelling via Ford may doubleback via Barnham. This easement applies in
both directions."

I may have missed something but you don't pass through Three Bridges coming from Barnham/Ford; the destination routeing point is Horsham? Ford group to Horsham has mapped routes on map SC, but some journey planners have trouble with validating the doubleback to Barnham because map SC does not include Barnham, even though Barnham is shown as a non-routeing point node on some other routeing maps. Some journey planners thus interpret this as the route via Barnham not being permitted, but I think it is, because there's nothing contractual in the public-facing routeing guide that says anything about the non-RP map nodes that exist in the electronic routeing guide. Of course the doubleback easement is also necessary (and sufficient) to allow travel via Barnham.

Although issued as point to point tickets Southern country season tickets are priced zonally. The £61.90 7 day season for Durrington on sea to Crawley is the same price as every station up to Bognor Regis or Barnham to Gatwick Airport. A Chichester to Gatwick 7 day season is £71.50 this is valid via Hove or Horsham. Depending on how often she goes to Chichester this may be the best bet. Southern ticket offices normally issue tickets from other stations without comment.
