Dundee - Wetherby

I'm currently looking at going to Wetherby for a job interview, however haven't agreed a date/time with the prospective employer yet.

I know Wetherby doesn't have a train station, so figure I'll have to get a bus from York/Harrogate/Leeds. Does anybody know which of these is best in terms of journey time and price with a 16-25 railcard?

I'm aiming to travel there and back in the same day, so would be aiming to arrive in Wetherby for 2pm. I should have at least a week's notice, so getting advance tickets should be fine.

http://www.transportdirect.info is good for planning bus or coach journeys (or multi-modal including trains).

There are not many direct buses from York; I did a search for a random day next week and it came up with changing at Tadcaster or taking the train to Leeds and taking a bus from there.

There are direct buses from Leeds, the journey time is approx 50 minutes.

However as you are coming from Dundee I believe it is likely to be cheapest for you to go via Harrogate and the bus from Harrogate to Wetherby takes approx 20 to 25 minutes.

Fares to Harrogate are not much more than to York (and the fare to Cattal is usually the same as to York, making Cattal a good place to 'split' the tickets)

Transportdirect reckons you can get there for 1359 by leaving at 0906, but it looks a bit tight.

I'd consider taking earlier trains, and getting the 1217 direct bus from York to Wetherby (due to arrive 1300). There is a direct bus back to York at 1610 from Wetherby (otherwise you will need to go via Harrogate or Leeds)

There are a few more buses than Yorkie's search found. An hourly service during the day - which ends in Wetherby at 17:25 (!). Buses from York station (across road) at either 12 or 17 minutes past hour.

You only need to faff about with tags if you want some text to appear in place of the URL.

yorkie is right that a bus from York or Harrogate is usually faster, but a bus from Leeds is often cheaper if you use PlusBus. Wetherby is in the Leeds PlusBus Zone, and a PlusBus Day ticket with a Railcard costs £2 in addition to your rail ticket, giving you unlimited bus travel throughout the zone.

Travelling with CrossCountry Trains tends to be expensive. The cheaper Dundee - Leeds Advance fares are usually with East Coast for the Edinburgh - York leg, and are 11% less if bought via the East Coast site. You'll be given the opportunity to add a £2 Railcard discounted Leeds PlusBus Day ticket before completing your purchase.

Thanks for the info, I'd spotted the Leeds Plusbus thing, but had trouble finding some times.
I normally use the East Coast site for booking, so will have a proper look and play when I know the exact date and timings.
At the minute, having had a brief look, I think timing wise getting the bus from York might be best, as going via Leeds or Harrogate adds an hour or so to the journey, and even with plusbus, I'm not sure the saving would be worth it.
