Firstly - If it's possible, could these two threads be merged?

Right, Your best bet would be to contact Eversholt Rail, Porterbrook or even Riviera Trains, as they certainly still own a fair number of Mk2s. The ones stored in Yeovil are owned by Devon & Cornwall Railways / BARS, and having looked at them last year, wouldn't touch those with a bargepole as the condition of them means realistically, there only good for scrapping. As for the Eastleigh Mk2s - They are Eversholt & possibly Porterbrook Owned.

There may be a few there - possibly a few ex Virgin liveried Eversholt ones, and a few of the Arriva liveried Mk2s should be in store there too. MOD Kineton is also another place for stored Mk2s.

Tyseley LM (Vintage Trains)
Heaton (Grand Central)- just three, 5700/10 & 9488, which carry old FGW colours
Cardiff Canton (Arriva)
Crewe DMD (Eastern Rail Services & Riviera)
MoD Kienton (Eversholt)- not many remain, maybe only 1
Derby RTC (RVEL & Network Rail)
*Also, BARS owned DBSOs 9704/05/07/09/10 are stored inside Eastleigh Works.

Just to help, these are the last remaining Eversholt owned STORED Mark 2s.
3438- Stored at Long Marston, carries Virgin colours
5936- Stored at Long Marston, carries Anglia colours
5960- Stored at Derby or Crewe, carries Virgin colours
6059- Stored at Derby or Crewe, carries Virgin colours
6722- Stored at Long Marston, carries old FGW colours
9500- Stored at Long Marston, carries Intercity Swallow colours
9505- Stored at Long Marston, carries Intercity Swallow colours
9538- Stored at MoD Kineton, carries Virgin colours
9713- Stored at Eastleigh Works, carries Anglia colours

Still, some Eversholt Mark 2s inuse with ScotRail on the sleeper though and various in use with charter operators and in preservation.
5960 and 6059 were moved, last Monday, from Kineton to Derby behind a BARS Class 31 but I'm sure if they eventually made it to Crewe.

I do advise, that if you want something more substantial, purchase a Coaching Stock book. The next edition of the Platform 5 copy should be out in November.

Oh, and if anyone has any updates on the above lists or the two Mark 2s mentioned above please let me know.

I'm pretty sure that there are still two Gatwick Express Mk2's at Etches Park which is seperate from the RTC site. They have been there for quite some time. I'm surprised that they haven't been cut up to be honest.

72614, 72615 and 72707 were (don't think they are) used as Internal Users, as Instruction coaches. They are in the vicinity of Derby Etches Park. They don't look in a great shape.

Rather supprisingly, and i wonder how many bits fell off en route, the ropy rake of Mk2s stored by DCR Railways has been on the move today, presumably up to Okehampton!

Now cosindering the state of some of those Mk2s, im supprised they were allowed onto the mainline - i checked the ex FGW BSO out last year and you could quite literally see the structural bars showing through from under the skin. It's that bad, id say that unless your going to fork out a heck of alot of money, the best thing to do it it is scrap it and replace it with another one...

As for what plans DCR have with them is another matter - 3 Okehampton & 4 for Weardale?

They've weathered phenomenally badly for carriages that last saw use "only" six years ago. There's been a stripped rake of mark 2s sitting on the entrance road to Booth's scrapyard in Rotherham for a while that don't look much worse!

Even some of the now scrapped Mk2s in Eastleigh didnt look that bad either, in fact i remember an ex FGW Riviera Trains Mk2 FO that came into the works. Good condition, but Riviera just wanted a few spares off it, then Bye Bye. Which is slightly ironic considering it was in much better condition than most of Rivieras Mk2s.

So that was the 31 I think I saw light engine from my room go through Exeter this afternoon then?... All makes sense now!

Oh no! That's a shame, I quite liked the familiar sight of some rather green old Virgin and a fag packet train! Glad I took those photos when I did as it's unlikely I'll see them again. I wish some old coaches were kept in liveries such as Virgin rather than the repaint into "heritage" original colours!

Well there sort of it. Riviera Trains use quite a considerable amount of ex XC (Intercity) / Virgin West Coast & XC & Anglia Railways Mk2s in their fleet and rarely bother to repaint them. They also operate the 'slightly smarter' The West Coast set - ex Virgin Mk2s which seem to see some tarting up action occasionaly, and 'The Anglian' - also a rake of ex Anglia Mk2s. Now not with the odd misnomer - the ex Virgin Mk2 BSO is now i think with DRS?

Don't know which is destined where, but coach numbers are 6181 6002 5920 9492 3354 3425 and 3402.

That got me thinking about scrap stock. Anyone got any idea what a coach would cost to say a preserved railway
and for that matter we see all the time old locos being sold, but never seen a price quoted..Commercial confidentiality I know heard it all before--what about say a class 37 in running order from someone like EWS

I know this is slightly off topic but Mk 2 d,e and f stock do not look good coupled up to a Bulleid Pacific and it's that kind of stock that is likely to be available.

Not only that but preserved railways seem to be over populated with diesels when in my experience most visitors to preserved railways expect to travel behind steam engines. In a nut shell steam sells tickets. Whilst I do accept that its important to save representatives of each class, it would be nice to see more more money being allocated to restoring loco's that attract visitors.

They are / include ex Cargo-D Intercity Mark 2s, 5866, 5906, 6168 & 9497 (all previously stored in Willesdon before being moved to Crewe) which were moved by DCRs 31601 from Crewe to the Mid Norfolk Railway at Dereham yesterday.

I do like a good old steam engine but I'm also a fan of the diesel locomotives. I personally prefer more modern traction like diesels and I wouldn't say there are too many diesels in heritage railways where I live, on the contrary I wish there were more! But obviously opinions differ.

With some ex-Eversholt stock, 6059, 5960, 9500 & 9505. All the stock in the consist has been sold to Eastern Rail Services. The loco was 31601.

Of the BARS (DCR) Stock, 3354, 3402, 3425 (all Virgin livery) and 9492 (FGW "Fag Packet" livery) are now at Taunton. Apparently, 31602 has failed.
These should be forwarded on to Barrow Hill or the Weardale Railway

They've made it to Derby Chaddeston Yard (north of Derby station). Should be Weardale Railway (Wolshingham) bound next week

I agree. Would much rather see trains in the livery we remember rather than some fictional livery., or heritage blue or green
