We had the pleasure of travelling Premier Class on the Scarborough Flyer last week, and as the Duchess pulled into Wilmslow for 'our' pick up I noted a regular hiss of escaping steam from her RH front end. A quick word with the driver at Stockport confirmed my diagnosis of a sticking cylinder drain cock. At the first water stop (Denton), the loco crew fixed it and from then on it didn't blow.
On the train I bought the 'Mainline' DVD of the loco, and I note on tours as far back as the early 2000s, that RH drain cock is leaking! At speed it is a continuous jet of stem; working hard and slow, it's a hiss-hiss-hiss.
Has Sutherland got an ongoing problem with a RH cyclinder drain cock sticking?
